Title of Book : P.S. I Love You
Author : Cecelia Ahern
Publisher : Thorndike Press

The title of the book – P.S.I Love You – may appear to be just another “cheesy romance novel”. But through creating a story revolving the past, the present and the future, the writer Ahern has taught me a valuable lesson about the true meaning of living and the thin divide between life and death. At first, I never thought that P.S. I Love You would be suitable for a pre-teen like me. But the great love of Holly and Gerry has transcended time to make it relevant to any ordinary person who has a loving heart! …reading_lap

It is unlike any other romance novel I have read before, which focuses more on how love changes a person. It explores how death, though ends someone’s life, rebuilds a person. I sincerely recommend this book to everyone – from teenagers to parents- who will be touched by the courage and strength of Holly. P.S. I Love You is a must read.

    Title of Book : Stormbreaker
    Author : Anthony Horowitz
    Publisher : Walkers Books

Stormbreaker is the most exciting book I have read in the past twelve years, as it is the written by the most popular writer in Britain, Anthony Horowitz.
A computer company was going to destroy Britain by a new kind of computer invention – Stormbreaker. The boss of the company was a schoolmate of the British prime minister, because of his short height, he was teased by the prime minister and other classmates, he had to revenge!
When the prime minister presses the button, the whole world’s net will be destroyed. To deal with this dangerous situation, the spy centre, M16 sent fourteen-year-old Alex immediately to solve the problem.
On the way, this young spy met lots of questions, but at the meantime he showed his courage and intelligence. They will attract you.
I was deeply amazed by how Anthony manages the story and the description of either the appearance of a person or a scene. I learnt a lot of new phrases and words. Anthony has really done a great job!

Title of Book : The Tempest
    Author : William Shakespeare
Editors : Claudia Fiocco, Rebecca Raynes
    Publisher : Black Cat Publishing

As I know, “The Tempest” is one of the representative works of Shakespeare.

It is a very interesting story which describes Prospero, a duke, but he had been framed by the king of Naples. He was not a duke again, so he was a poor man. His brother was an evil man, he had taken his place and become the duke. He also laughed at Prospero.

Prospero was filled with anger and he and the fairy, Ariel, used magic to make a storm and a tempest to punish Antonio, the new duke. The king and all the people on the ship were pushed to an island by the storm. Prospero’s daughter, Miranda, had met the king’s son, Ferdinand. They fell in love.

Then Prospero used magic to punish the bad people again. The king and his brother were sorry and felt ashamed. But the king was sad because his son was lost. Prospero then told the king that his son was there with Miranda safely. When they met, they were extremely happy.

At the end, Prospero did no more magic because of a happy ending.

I was surprised because I didn’t think Prospero would forgive the king and his brother. The book was exciting too because of the colourful pictures. I’ve learned lots of new words such as wedding, royal, hurray, etc. It also had a glossary and some tests at the end of the book. It really helps young readers like me to read the book well!

Title of Book : Tashi and the Ghosts
    Author : Anna Fienberg
Publisher : National Library of Australia Cataloguing-in-Publication

Do you believe that there are ghosts in the world? What will you do if you see a ghost? Will you talk with them and scare them? If I see a ghost aroud me, I think I will shout and run away.

I think this book is very interesting. I also like the boy,Tashi. No one in the village is as brave as Tashi. Why?

One day, there were many ghosts in the village. Everybody in the village dashed out into the street because there were many ghosts that went to their home and ate them. Tashi found his father’s Younger Brother. He knew that the next eclipse there would be a haunting of ghosts and Book of Calculation. Next night ,Tashi went to the forest and found those ghosts. The ghost leader wanted to eat him but Tashi warned it that the Red Whiskered Dragon would come to eat the moon and punish it. When the ghost leader saw the eclipse, they were scared and ran away.

How do you feel about this story? Do you feel the boy was very brave? You can also be brave as Tashi and go to scare those ghosts. But why do some of you think you cannot? It is because of your mentality. Your heart is sure that you are scared and cannot scare those ghosts. But it is a very easy thing. You should say ‘I can do it’ and believe yourself.

Try it! Say ‘I can improve.’ Say ‘I am not scared.’ Say ‘I can do it’ etc. to yourself. You will be brave and believe yourself.

    You can do it!

This is a Mystery story. The story is set on a Greek island. Liz, an archaeologist in Athens, loves working very much. She was ill due to over work. Therefore, her doctor asked her to have a holiday and take a rest. She went to an island Sifnos in Greece. Unfortunately, her friend died in a fire accident. She wanted to find out the cause of his death. She then discovered a group of terrorists trading guns. She was in danger. An international police, Takis, saved her life but he was being hurt. Finally, a group of international police arrived and saved them.

The character, Takis, impressed me most in the story. He is brave and unreserved. He hid himself as a policeman. He worked as a clandestine with the group of terrorists. He is a great policeman. Most importantly, he saved the life of Liz even though he was in great danger. We should also learn to have such kind of good quality.

    Title: A Picture to Remember
    Author: Sarah Scott-Malden
    Publisher: Cambridge University Press/
Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press

Have you ever lost your memory about something? This is a story about the main character Cristina who is working in a museum in Argentina and has a strange experience of losing a short memory after a car accident. She actually saw two robbers in a car accident. Two robbers were afraid and planned to kill her. Cristina was injured by someone pushing the heavy weight on her shoulder in a gym center. She had a strange feeling about this injury accident but she did not know why. She kept on working with a French museum director, Phillippe, for the exhibition of impressionist paintings. The two robbers drove a car and knocked them down. Phillippe’s legs were badly hurt. Cristina‘s friend, Daniel, reported to the police and saved the life of Cristina.

The story is exciting. It made me learn that life is difficult to predict. Just like Cristina, she never knew that she was a target of two robbers. We need to treasure our life and be cautious about our surroundings.

Have you ever swum with dolphins in the ocean? This is the story book about a brother and a sister named Annie and Jack. They traveled around the world for adventure. This time, they went to coral reef and went under the water by the mini-sub. They met a lot of fishes and curios creatures, including huge octopus, dolpins and shark!

They had to find out a riddle from Morgan. If they solve the four riddles, they can be the Master Librarians. The first riddle:
    Rough and gray as rock.
I’m plain as plain can be.
    But hidden deep inside
    There’s great beauty in me.
    What am I?
Can you solve it? It is Oyster!

This story is very interesting and exciting! I think they are very brave and clever to find out the riddle’s answer. This story is not very long and it is suitable for teenagers. You can read this book next time if you want!

Title: Dark Day in the Deep Sea
    Author: Mary Pope Osborne
    Publisher: Random House

This book is one of the MagicTree House series. This set of books are about Annie and Jack. They traveled on many adventures for Morgan and Marlin.
This time, they went back to 1872 and met Henry which is one of the scientists of the HMS Challenger. They were invited to visit the ship under bad weather. Annie and Jack saw many Henry’s specimens and sea creatures’ sample on the ship’s laboratory.
In an accident, Annie and Jack crashed out the ship by big sea waves. Their life vest got loose and washed by the wave. Suddenly, a huge octopus saved them and let them go onto the ship. The sailors caught the octopus and wanted to study the monster of the sea.
At last, Annie and Jack told the sailors not to hurt the octopus and the sea creatures. The sailors let the octopus go away and knew that protect sea creatures is the most important thing!
I think people who read this book will know more about protecting sea creatures and learn something from the two characters, Annie and Jack. If we don’t care about the sea creatures, the sea will be destroyed by our hands one day!

    Title: Red Tears
    Author: Barbara
    Publisher: Faber and Faber Limited

The protagonist of this story, ‘Red Tears’, is a Grade A student who seems to have everything. Emily Bowyer had everything – perfect grades, friends and family. However, when GCSE exams started to hit in, her social life started to go downwards. Her mother would remind her at every chance she got about homework, her friends started to isolate her, even her grades started to go down. She felt lonely. She wanted distraction and she found it – a blade as sharp as a lion tooth that could cut as deep as the ocean. Cutting her wrist would give her the distraction she wanted, she believed that it would take her away from reality just for a little while.

This story gained my attention because it really illustrates what teenagers would do to their life when there’s too much to bear, or so they thought. While reading this book, I felt like I was with Emily through every ups and every downs.

Title of the book: The Little Prince
    Author: Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
    Publisher: The Penguin Book

When the author was six years old, he wanted to be a painter. He gave his picture to the grown-ups, but they advised him to study instead of drawing. He said, 〝Grown-ups never understand anything by themselves, and it is tiresome for children to be always and forever explaining things to them.〞Later, he learnt to pilot airplanes and met little prince by an accident with his plane in Sahara. Little prince came from an asteroid called B-612.

One day, for little prince’s escape he took advantage of the migration of a flock of wild birds. In his journey, he made the acquaintance of different people – the king who was an absolute monarch, a conceited man, a tippler, a lamplighter…

Each story brings out a massage to us. I like the story about little prince and the fox most. Little prince met a fox on Earth. The fox wanted little prince to tame him and make friends with him. At last, the fox told him his secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; What is essential is invisible to the eye. I love this truth very much.

Baron was very greedy. He loved gold very much and put them in the mysterious place where there were many tigers around.

One day, he stole some gold from Tashi’s aunt, Li lam’s home and wanted to stay in her home forever. She took a promise paper that said only she could stay there forever, so she didn’t let him stay in. Baron was very angry and put a lot of mice to Li lam’s home. Li Lam was very upset. But Tashi had made them go away.

Tashi went to the mystery and expelled those tigers by fire.(Because tigers were afraid of fire!) Finally, his gold had been stolen by Tashi and he went to the police station. Because he stole many gold from other people’s house, Baron got what he deserved.

I admired Tashi because he was very brave and we should be honest and not be greedy like Baron because he stole other people’s gold and wanted to stay in other people’s home.

    Title of book: Little Women
    Author: Louisa May Alcott

This story is about Meg, Jo, Amy, and Beth-The March sisters. As they grow from girls into young women, they gradually learn more about life, friendship, and the power of love along the way. This story is touching. Although they might not have much, they gave all they have to the poor people. The March family is a warm family – they sang lullabies every night before going to sleep, read the letter from their father who went to war together, had no quarrel with other, solved problem together. All in all, they were happy girls, who found comfort in one another when the outside world was disappointing…Such family is rare to see nowadays. It is good for us to reflect on ourselves: Do I spend enough time with family?

The March sisters had nice character. I can remember an unbelievable sense in the story; it is the beginning of the story. It was Christmas, they used their savings to buy a present for their mother. It is touching because they didn’t have money but they insist to thank their mother. This is a really great story.

Since I was just about six years old, I liked reading books very much, especially the books which are about science. This book—‘Weather and Climate’ is one of the books in the National Geographic Reading Expeditions. I think this is a good and suitable book for learning because there are many pictures and meaning of the difficult words and these make it easier for us to read this book.

I can find so much interesting knowledge in this book which I don’t know before. For example, ‘What is weather or climate?’. There are many different things about air around us, some important things about wind and water and how to read a climatic graph. Many useful things that you may never think about are clearly introduced in this ‘Weather and Climate’. So you don’t need to think any further, just open this book and read it. I am sure that you are going to be a clever person on weather and climate.

As the last sequel in the Harry Potter saga, this time the trio had to face the most difficult and also the most dangerous challenge — to destroy Voldermort. Before setting off for the hunt of the remaining Horcruxes, the three youngsters quitted Hogwats, left their families and friends behind for safety reason. However, the trio’s trust to each other and their pure hearts helped them to overcome the barriers. Most importantly, they knew only love could conquer death.

She will cry for the needy, even for the most inferior creature or person. It is her kind heart that made her so special to me. I can learn a lot from her.

Title of the book: Tales of Africa
    Editor: Lisa Owens

The book”Tales of Africa” is a book like ” Fables of Aesop”. It provides many fables in the book. It uses animals as the main characters in most stories. It also teaches us a moral after each story. It also provides some ancient thinking about animals. For example, in the story ” How the leopard got its spots”, it says because leopard was the best friend of fire, one day, leopard invited fire to visit its house. When fire touched it, it got some black spots on it. It is a very funny story.

Another story I like is “Ananse gets out of work”. It says that there was a spider called Ananse. He wanted to earn money without working. So he lied to his wife and son that he kicked and screamed. And he relaxed at home. Finally, his wife and son knew he was lying and didn’t allow him to get in the house. I learnt that we should not lie.

Though he loved Ester, a girl sat in front of him in his class, he couldn’t pick up his confidence and express his feeling to her. Though he didn’t like his hair style which is cut by his only barber, he only said a word ‘fine’ and let it be bygones. He was too bashful!

Sometimes, translation lost some of it tastes when the passage was being translated, so I started to read its original edition.

Tuesdays with Morrie is a true story about a professor Morrie who was near to death, but he still used his only time to have a lesson with his student Mitch to tell him the true meaning of life, the importance in life, the purpose of life and the meaning of death, etc.

Tuesdays with Morrie quite inspires me in its definition of life. It is still affecting my way of looking at things up to now. There are a few words from the book I still remember. ‘So many people walk around with a meaningless life. They seem half-asleep, even when they’re busy doing things they think are important.’ After this, it says,‘This is because they’re chasing the wrong things. The way you get meaning into your life is to devote yourself to loving others, devote yourself to your community around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning. ’

I think this book is very good for your own spiritual growth. Maybe for Form 1 or 2 students, you still don’t know what’s the underlying meanings of the words. You may have difficulty reading it. But I suggest you read it again a few years later. I think at that time you will understand it -‘As you grow, you learn more’.

Huck asked a lot of people and knew that Jim was sold to the farm of Aunt Sally.
Huck pretended to be her nephew, Tom. He helped Jim to escape, but Jim was hurt by a huntsman. The escape plan of Huck was destroyed.

Finally, Tom’s Family knew the truth and told Huck and Jim.‘Huck’s father and Jim’s master were dead. ‘You can have freedom!’ They were very happy that day.

Have you ever met “yourself” in the street? Will you be scared? The main character, John, got a very strange experience. He came from Britain to work in Hungary. He got married with a young lady who taught him Hungarian. One day, he met a man who looked like him. Then, he tried to find the man, but he could not find anything. He read information about a “Doppelganger”. It means something like double walker who comes to give messages about danger or to offer advice. It is usually thought to bring bad luck. This information made John scared. He worried something bad will happen. He spent much of his time in searching. He did not care for his wife and his daughter. He believed that his wife and daughter would be in danger. Finally, the family was safe with the help of “Doppelganger”.

The story was interesting. It was not a detective fiction. But the story attracted you to continue reading to know the ending and what will happen to the characters. At last, it got a happy ending.

Today, I would like to share a book with you. It is unlike the book I shared last time, this one is a reference book. This is a book about computer. Maybe someone would ask why I read conference book in English. They may think reference book in Chinese is easier than that in English, but in my own experience, it’s definitely not, especially books on Computer Science. With the various translation of proper nouns, you may get confused when you start to learn.

Today, the book I share is called ‘CSS: The Definitive Guide’, which is published by the world weighty computer related books publisher, O’Reilly. This book is about CSS, which stands for Cascading Style Sheets. It is a new type of lauguage (can be said like this?) on decorating or formating your website beside directly put on HTML. The advantage of it is that CSS allows a much richer document appearance than HTML and you can save time by using it. You will know if you read this book.

Maybe someone will think the book is childish, but I think is not because it can teach us something we cannot learn in the textkbook or lesson. Like in this book, it teaches us to “share” things. If you do not share things, you will have no friend or if you want to borrow things, people don’t share things with you.

The story is about Rabbit that planted many vegetables, like succulent spinach, luscious lettuce, gorgeous green beans, prized peppers and his favourite-colossal carrots. Pooh wanted to share with Rabbit, but Rabbit did not want to share with Pooh because he thought those vegetables were grown by his hard work and prepared for eating in winter .After that, Piglet,Tigger and Roo came to find Rabbit and shared the vegetables, but Rabbit did not say yes.

Garfield, you know, is a lazy cat. He eats so much and sleeps so much. One comic says when he saw the calendar of the records at the end of a year, he found that he missed three naps in that year and then he went to catch up the three naps! It is so funny! But I think he cannot care for this too much because if he cares for this, he will find it hard to catch up!

Also, this comic is also funny. It says Garfield’s owner, Jon, told Garfield that dinner was served. But when he said ‘Dinner is…’ Garfield ran very, very fast and collided with Jon. And then he ate dinner fast!
About Jon’s dog and Garfield’s friend, Odie, is very silly. One comic says Jon taught Odie to sit up. But he did not do it and made Jon angry. And then Garfield said Odie used three years to learn how to breathe! This is too exaggerating but it is funny! But I want to ask, why can Odie exist till now?

This book is very, very funny and interesting. Also the picture is beautiful and good. This book has another good comic in it. If you want to see Garfield’s comic, you can find it in the library. I hope there will be more people reading it, which makes them laugh and relax.

“Grrrrrrrrommmmmmmmmmmmmm…The distant volcano suddenly rumbled, shaking the ground. Gasps of shock washed over the crowd.” As a matter of fact, this book is a fantasy. The story is about two swashbuckling swindlers who get their rank-smelling hands on a map to the mythological and glorious city of gold.

As expected, there are many obstacles on their way to the city of gold. For instance, a high priest is clasped in a power struggle with the dreadfully benevolent chief and the perfunctory and negligent girlfriend puts the two friends at odds. This made them agrue for a long period.

This story is filled with action, excitement and humour which shows the greatness of friendship, courage and bravery which can be spread all over the world if everyone performs deeds of open-handedness and friendliness. The author of this book, Peter Lerangis, is trying to tell his readers, “Their friendship is more valuable than all the gold and glory the El Dorado has to offer! ”

I liked this book because it sounded like it could really happen although it was fabled and fictitious. I luxuriate in reading books like this so I would like to recommend this book to anyone.

When Violet solved the mysteries, I chanted “Great!” with eyes bulged as I stay up late for reading this book.

Pip did those and thought that the secret benefactor was Miss Havisham. And he started thinking about Estella……

This book is written by Charles Dickens. Although some behaviour described in this book is incorrect, the book is touching because finally Pip and Estella became friends! Conscientiously, this is absolutely a fantastic book I’ve ever read. Some people may think that Tracy in the story was quite kinky and weird. But I think she was superb and mature enough. Tracy was neglected by her mother. But she believed that mother and her would show up and have marvellous adventures one day. In the meantime, she was doing everything she could to take care of herself. And that’s hard work, because the girls she lived with are mean and nasty.

She disliked reading soppy fairy tales and got a bit teed off when her aunt scowled at her. It is an illusion that Tracy was zany Actually she had the most interesting and creative ideas in her mind.

However, wonderful ideas are not a panacea or cure-all of being well-behavioured. Tracy sometimes spoke foul language when she was furious and mad. She blurted out impolite saying such as “you little creepy sausage!” , “get lost!” and “I want to beat you up!”, which are rude.

Katie’s classmates, George and Kelvin, have gone to see the scary movie named Tornado. Katie was not very glad about it but she swept up in big winds herself twice. Twice also happened that Katie was sad and she hoped she could be anyone but not herself and her hope became true and finally she became herself. Actually, Katie felt that the magic wind will come back……

Katie had a best friend named Suzanne. One day Katie and her friend, Jeremy, went to Suzanne’s home to chat together. Suzanne had a baby brother called Heather. At that moment Heather cried loudly. So Suzanne and Jeremy went to take the bottle and food for him to eat. And Katie and her dog, Pepper, went to look at him. But suddenly, the magic wind blew up again! And Katie became Heather! When Suzanne wanted to change her diaper, Katie was terrified and asked her not to change her diaper! And suddenly, she became herself again.

But Katie’s baby talking made Suzanne and Jeremy think that Heather was a genius. So they said to everyone and wrote it on the class newspaper. Other classmates wanted to listen to Heather’s talking so they went to Suzanne’s home. Although Katie stopped Suzanne, Suzanne did not listen. So, the classmates could not listen baby’s talking and they were angry with Suzanne and Jeremy……

This book was very interesting and funny. It is because the action of the story, like
when Suzanne went to change her diaper, Katie said things and Suzanne and
Jeremy’s fear was funny. I hope you can read this book enjoyably.

Kathy, a lovely girl who worked in Helping Hand. One day, when Kathy served in the Old People’s Home, she met an old woman. The old woman talked about her past with Kathy. She told Kathy that she once worked in Hampton House. And the master, Lord Hampton, was selfish and did not care for the servants. After this conversation, Kathy felt curious about Hampton House as it seemed to relate to her.

Chance led the visiting of Hampton House. In Hampton House, Kathy met the ghost of Lord Hampton and had a wonderful adventure there. Then, she shared her experience with her friends. But none of them believed Kathy. They thought the thing that Kathy said was illogical and they thought she was a liar so they stayed away from her.

Fortunately, Kathy’s friends realized what Kathy said were both true in the end. They felt sorry to Kathy and they became friends again.

I like this book because it is very interesting and the pictures are real. Also, after reading this book I have learnt that the truth is true, although other people do not believe at this moment, but they will understand one day.

Today, I would like to share a book with you. Before that, I would like to ask you three questions:
    1. What does life stand for?
    2. What is in your first priority?
    3. Why are you here? What on Earth are you here for?
You do not need to answer me. Keep the answer in your mind.

The book I would like to share with you guys today is called ‘The Purpose Driven Life’, which is a devotional book. In this book, you can find out the answer. It quotes verses from Bible. You can know who you are, why you are here……from this book with Bible.

Actually, I have not read the whole book yet. I just follow the schedule of my church, and sometimes read the e-version of the original English version for further understanding. But there is a chapter I remember most ‘You are not an accident’. The book said ‘It is not fate, nor chance, nor luck, nor coincidence that you are breathing at this very moment. You are alive because God wanted to create you’. Sometimes, you study Science, you may think everything happens by probability, even life, you may think it is also by probability, but actually it’s not, the book said we are alive because God wanted to create us.
I think it is a great book for you to think about your life. Go and read it, and you will find the treasure inside.

It’s not telling about the relation between boy and girl, it is friendship, etc. It taught me to share. It said sharing happiness will get double happiness and sharing unhappiness, it will disappear. =] Amazing, but it is true.

In the book, it said, if you can find a thing bigger than you, you will have a deep comfort. After you find your belief, you will realize that everyone’s similarity is more than their difference. When we are weak, we don’t know what will happen next, try to lay us down, turn our eyes upon God, and wait God plan for us.

As my friend mentioned in the sharing, every time you read Jodi Picoult’s book, you will get a shock wave, you will think about your value judgment.

This time, this novel, Change of Heart, is talking about the condemned prisoner, Shay Bourne. He killed a girl and her father (also a police). The book is a mixture of different people’s own words. It stated that if we also punish him by killing him, what is the difference between we and he, just seem we use a nice reason, but actually we are doing the same thing. But finally, he still is condemned to death. When Shay is waiting to die, he wants to donate his heart to the victim’s only family member in order to atone. More and more contradiction occurs. What will happen then? Let’s read the book.

The part in the book that most interested me is ‘Other Planets in our solar system’. Do you think that the planet which is the closest to the sun is the hottest planet? I think most of you get wrong!! No, it isn’t! It is the second nearest, Venus. Why? Let me briefly introduce it to you . The four planets closest to the sun—Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars–are made up mainly of rock and are small. The next four planets–Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune–are made up mostly of gas and are large. However, Venus’s days are longer than its years! Its year is 224 earth days, its day lasts 243 days earth days. Venus’s atmosphere traps lots of carbon dioxide. Because of this, Venus is the hottest planet in the solar system. So he went out but he did not know that he had destroyed many things.

He murdered a teenage girl during a six million pound bank robbery in London. He usually uses a name ‘T.M.’ as his signature. The police describe him as ‘Europe’s most dangerous criminal’. He is also clever, everyone, even the police, doesn’t know how he looks like, but the only thing everyone knows about him is that he is over two meters tall!

Today, I would like to share a book with you. This book is about a boy named Ryan and a dog called Brutus. All of Ryan’s friends had a pet but Ryan did not have. So he asked his parents to buy a dog and promised that he would take care of it carefully. After repeated pleading, his mother bought him a little cute dog, Brutus. But he did not feel so happy because he wanted a dog like Duke. Duke was a big, rough and strong. And Brutus was only a poodle puppy! So then Ryan did many unreasonable things to make Brutus become rough and tough……

I think this book is interesting. When Ryan wanted Brutus to be rough and tough, he fed it a lot of meat. Also he instructed it to catch rabbits! Therefore he thought that Brutus could become big, rough, strong and like Duke! (But it was also a bit cruel to Brutus!) Besides, this book is instructive. Ryan thought that only a rough and tough dog was a good dog. But Brutus was a good dog too. When a ferret called Fred stole things and was escaping, he ran after Fred as fast as he could, finally it caught Fred and all of Ryan’s friends praised it! Oppositely, Duke suddenly stopped to catch the thief because it felt tired. So it tells us: We shouldn’t use exterior to determine whether a person is good or not. Do you wish something happened to change your life magically? However, it is not a good way. This story talked about how the monkey’s paw changed the life of the White family. The old Mr. White, his wife and their son, Herbert are not very rich. But they lived happily. On a rainy day, Old Mr. White’s friend, Tom Morris who was an old Indian soldier visited them. They drank a lot and Tom told them many strange stories about Indian. The family asked the soldier for a monkey’s paw which has magic power and can give wishes to people. The White family thought it was wonderful. However, Tom warned them again and again that wishes don’t bring happiness and it’s never good to want to change things.
Old Mr. White did make a wish to have 3,000 pounds for their house. The White family was disappointed to see nothing happened at that night. Herbert then went to work as machine technician in a factory next morning.

A well-dressed gentlemen then visited them this day. The old Mr. and Mrs. White expected something happened to them. Unfortunately, they were told that their son died of a machine accident. His employer gave them 3,000.- pounds for compensation!

It was really a sad story. It taught us that it is no good to wait for magic in life. Instead, we should wish things to be changed by ourselves.

This story talked about the hard life of Jennet in the 17th century. She was born in a witch family. Her grandmother, mother, elder sister and elder brother are witches. Her father died many years ago. They were poor and had no food to eat. She disliked her family members who used magic on others for money, food or took revenge. Jennet did not have such kind of power. She was kind and she did not want anyone to die. She then told what she saw to a rich man, Mr. Nowell who could have the power to judge her family members’ wrongdoings. All of her family members were kept in the prison and hung to die.

Jennet then learned to serve Mr. Nowell and his family. However, a child told lies that she was a witch and sent her to prison for many years. Although some people believed she was innocent but no one could save her.

It was not happy to read this story. But this story told us the hardship of lower class and the poor people in the 17th Centuay. They have no food to eat and no say in their life. They struggled for bread but no one respected them! We have to thank for what we have today.

He got head injury and his wife’s leg was badly wounded. He decided to walk along the coastline to seek help. But he was unconscious and then he was sent to the hospital. His wife and son were left in the desert for 4 days without food and drink. Bardis was awake but he lost all of his memory. He finally remembered who he was after the nurse reminded him. He then asked the police and doctor to save his son and wife who were still left in the desert. Bardis forgot his own injury and insisted to join them to search for his son and wife. Luckily, they were alive.

Bardis and his family were brave and strong in struggle for life. They could overcome the natural hardship and body pain and have strong will for survival. Their courage deeply impressed me.

The beast in this story was son of Lykaon who was a bad man and punished by Zeus many years ago. The beast was half man and half wolf. He has power to turn his body into a ghost, a beautiful man or woman or even any living things. The beast hid himself in the Brynmawr Hill which is in Wales.

Susie and her husband, Charlie went to Brynmawr Hill for holiday. Susie met the beast who turned himself into a handsome man in a pub. The beast liked Susie and he then wanted Susie to be with him. At the same time, something strange happened in the village. A farmer, Tom found that some of his sheeps died and missing. The beast made Charlie get badly hurt in a traffic accident. He then kept Susie in his home when Charlie was in hospital. However, Susie did not accept the beast and ran away. She was saved by Tom. Tom shot the beast. Then the beast escaped.

I thought the Beast represented the evil side of the world . It exists everywhere. It would make us do bad things. We should be strong and wise enough to escape from the evil, like Susie. We should try to say no to the such power.

Today I want to recommend a book for you which has touched my heart. Louis Braille is the boy who was blind since five years old.It was because he played with the owl and owl plunged into his eyes.Although his mother held him close and bathed his eyes and the doctor came as fast as he could, his eyes could not be cured. At that moment, blind children almost never went to school and learned to to read or write. His parents wanted him to be happy and learn how to get around by himself. They feared that he would not do anything.Louis Braille did not give up.He also wanted to do many things even though he was blind. So his parents started to teach him many things such as polishing leather with wax and a soft cloth, filling a bucket with drinking water etc.Very soon,he could use his cane to walk which could make him walk confidently.
After he could take care of himself and help his parents, his father taught him about history and science and how the stars moved. His father found a school for him to learn and stay .He eventually found Mr.Becheret, the principal of the school, who could look after Louis Braille. The students of the school were very nice and friendly.Louis Braille cried in the morning at the school.Gabriel, the best friend of Louis Braille, comforted him.
One day,he wanted to read the book for the blind. He discovered that the book for the blind had the problem. It was not clear for the blind. Therefore,he wanted to invent books for the blind but he was afraid. His friends encouraged him to do it.He finally invented an easy way for all blind people to read and write. He worked out his alphabets of raised dots such as B(:),H(:.),G(::),J(.:)etc.He was only fifteen years old. After he had invented the alphabet, his coughed very seriously. The doctor proved that he had caught a terrible disease. during the last year of the school, he gave a lecture in his school. Many people were amazed. In 1852,he died.In 1887,the people of Coupvray, where Louis Braille was born, built a monument to commemorate him in the middle of the village square.
Although he was blind,he did not give up or hide somewhere to cry.He didn’t mind having a very hard life in the school. He even invented books for the blind. His perseverance had touched me. I hope that I can solve the difficulties as he did.

I want to recommend a book which is called Alien at School. The character of this story is called Jennifer Dale. You can call her Jenny. She has two best friends called Dana and Paul.It was the first day of high school. They had known some teachers but they thought that some of them were strange such as Mr Adams, who was at the window and was looking directly at the sun but the sun didn’t irritate his eyes.Another weird teacher is Mr Stone who had cheekbones, his eyes seemed to be able to change colour. At lunch,he had a glass of green liquid and some black pills,so they wanted to spy on Mr Stone.
After school, Paul and Jenny hid behind some bushes and waited for him to walk past. They followed Mr Stone and went to his home.Outside Mr Stone’s home,Jenny climbed the tree and saw him.She discovered that Mr Stone was bald and his head was covered with a lot of brown warts. At that moment,Mr Stone discovered that Jenny and Paul were spied on him and thought he was an alien. He felt very sad.The students felt terribly sorry but they wanted to comprehend thier questions. It was because Mr Stone started samoking as a teenager and continued until the tumour developed that he lost all of his hair and developed those warts. Also, the green liquid and the black pills were parts of his treatment and they included protein and other nutritional substances.Jenny,Paul and Mr Stone became friends.Henceforward,Mr Stone had a lot of friends.
I thought that if Jenny and Paul had something that they didn’t understand, they could ask Mr Stone directly or send him a letter. He will be more sad if they spy on him. Also,we should learn hospitality and kindness from Mr Stone.Although Jenny and Paul did inappropriate things,Mr Stone forgave them.

    Title: Fundamental Volleyball
    Author: Julie Jensen
    Publisher: Lerner Publications Company

This book is about volleyball. This book tells us the history, the basic skills and the information of a game of volleyball. It tells us that the most important thing to volleyball players is to think positively as it can help them to concentrate, and concentrating helps a player to serve correctly.
There are many pictures to help you to learn more easily and it also includes many details and tips to help readers learn the skills. For example, serving, passing, setting, spiking, blocking, etc. I think setting is the most difficult skill because we have to anticipate where the first pass will go and quickly move to that spot. It is hard to predict which direction the ball will go.
I also learn that safety precaution is very important before and after doing sports. The volleyball players have to stretch their muscles before practising. Then, when they have to dive for a ball, their muscles can stretch without injury. In order to play long games without losing energy, players also have to jog in place.
I think the most interesting chapter is “RAZZLE DAZZLE”. It teaches us some advanced moves to make the games more exciting such as jump serve, tips and back sets. Although the movements are hard to learn well, they are challenging. Tips can help us to win a game easily. Since the blockers and the other defenders are expecting a hard hit, they are not ready for the soft shot. I think jump serve is the most useful skill, we can jump and hit the ball, just like in a spike, but we don’t have to worry about hitting the net.
At the back of this book, there are some words about volleyball and their meanings. It can help us to know more about volleyball. I think this book is very suitable for beginners who are learning volleyball. I would recommened this book to my classmates who are interested in playing volleyball.

He suddenly “flew” to the heaven, and met five people whom Eddie was responsible for. Through the journey, Eddie knew that he did something wrong with some people, and now he knew it.
I think the book is interesting and meaningful. I like the arrangement of ideas that the author used five people who had different characters and relationship with the main character, Eddie. The author arranged the five people with different experiences skillfully in order to teach Eddie some lessons and made him feel regretful and sorry about what he did in his previous life. Moreover, the author wrote about Eddie’s birthday (which was the last day of his life) at the end of one “lesson” to help the readers to follow what is going on.

This story talks about how the life of an “elephant man” changed. The elephant man was born with half man and half elephant body. His name is Merrick. He was ugly. His mother left him. He was kept by a bad man who showed him to make money. The life of Merrick was difficult. Everyone is afraid of him because of his horrible appearance. Dr. Treves met Merrick and wanted to help him. But, he was taken back by the bad man. One day, a policeman called Dr. Treves as Merrick kept his name card.

The life of Merrick changed a lot when he was sent to the hospital where Dr. Treves worked there. He could have a home in the hospital, he could read and make friends with others. Even the Queen went to see him. He could once stay in the countryside for his wish. He finally died peacefully in the hospital bed.

I thought Merrick was very strong and brave. He was born with a horrible appearance. His mother left him. The bad man made money from him. He had no choice. But he was brave to face his difficult life. He never gave up. He chose to live on. He is a good model for youngsters today. We should not give up when facing our hard time.

Today, I would like to share a book with you. This book is talking about some mysteries around a boy called Doug and also his friends. Because this book has five stories of the mysteries, so I only introduce the most exciting and interesting story—-The case of the mooching martians.

This story starts like that: When Doug was watching a TV programme called Tri-County Swimming Championships, he missed the last race but he could hear some strange music! On the next day, he heard the music again from Al and Moo’s wheelbarrow. He asked them what they were doing, but they only answered ‘Seventy-two’ and then ran away quickly. Then he followed them and went to a park, but there also was an UFO called MARS! Many aliens got in and out the UFO!! Then Dung thought that he should know the fact, so he started the mysteries……

I think this book is very interesting and exciting because of the action in the story. For example, when Doug and his friend Skeeter saw the ‘aliens’, I felt very afraid and scared because they might destroy the Earth!! Also the most frightening scene was when the ‘aliens’ found them, they intended to use their laser eyes to kill them!! But in every story, the ending was very funny! For example, in the story of UFO (on top), the UFO, MARS, was the Tri-County Swimming Championships’ short form! Also, the people who wore like aliens were working on testing the elasticity of the new swimming suits!

The story has mystery, excitement and fun!! It is very good!! Why don’t you go to library to read it at once? Let’s go!

Authour: Edgar Allan Poe/ Jennifer Bassett
Publisher: Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press/ Oxford University Press

This is a detective story. The author and his friend, Dupin lived in Paris. Dupin was very clever. There was a terrible murder in the Rue Morgue. A mother and her daughter were killed in their house. The police questioned many witnesses. Most of them heard two voices. They agreed one voice spoke in French but they had different ideas about another sharp voice. A Frenchman thought the voice spoke in Spanish, but he didn’t know Spanish. A Spaniard thought it was English but he couldn’t speak English.

Dupin started from the fact. No gold was stolen. The murderer was so strong to break furniture into pieces, held daughter’s body into the chimney and cut off mother’s head just with a razor. He could make sharp voice. He could swing his body from the lightening rod to the window. He left long grey hair on the floor….. It was finally discovered that the murderer was a large orang-outang (big monkey) which escaped from a sailor.

Many of us would study things without the fact. For example, the witnesses thought the sharp voice was a foreign language but they actually did not know that language. But Dupin tried to see things based on fact. It was an exciting story. I learnt to look into things more seriously and did not make conclusion that I was not sure. It is because it would mislead others’ thinking.

I’d like to share the part ‘digestion’ to you.
Our tongues will meet the food first. Tongue is covered by tiny bumps to taste and grip the food. The tongue will tell us if things are poisonous by tasting. Sour and bitter all represent poisonous which until now we still don’t quite like.
Next will be our teeth. They are responsible to slice and crush the food in order to let us digest it easier. Teeth, with rich enamel, are built to be the strongest part of our body, in order to cut everything without difficulties.
After that, it’s time to let the saliva go on stage. Saliva dissolves sugar and salt within an extremely short time. Also, saliva keeps our mouths moist and disinfected. It wets the throat and the dry food, letting it enter the oesophagus smoothly.
When food enters the oesophagus, it falls into the stomach immediately. It’s covered by three layers of muscles, in order to prevent the highly acidic stomach juice (pH 2-3) leaking out. The stomach juice can kill most of the bacteria and fully digest all the food inside.
After falling into particles, the food enters the small and large intestines. The small intestine mainly absorbs the nutrients and leaves the watery waste to the large intestine. The large intestine will absorb the water and what is left will be the waste and excreted out of the body.
The above words are only the brief description of the digestive system. There’re liver, pancreas, kidneys and other stuff, but those are so complicated that I skip them in this report.
This book also tells me about the respiratory, circulation, and muscle systems. But due to the lacking of time, I’d like to tell you about them next time.

It is a story about a child, Mowgli, who was taken away by a bad tiger, from his family to the jungle. Luckily, he was brought up by a wolf family. The wolf family treated him very well. A big brown bear, Baloo loved teaching him everything about the jungle. A black panther, Bagheera always protected him as the bad tiger wanted to kill him for food. When Mowgli was grown up, he was pushed by some young wolves as influenced by the bad tiger to leave the jungle. The wolf family and his friends missed him very much. Mowgli killed the bad tiger with the help of wolf brothers, and buffaloes. He finally could live in the jungle.

The friendship among Mowgli and his friends impressed me most. Mowgli once did not obey Baloo and made friends with a group of monkeys who did not follow the “Jungle Law”. Baloo and Bagheera fought with the monkeys to save Mowgli. Mowgli learnt that he was wrong and accepted their punishment. It is very touching to see that Bagheera got hurt after the fight. But he carried Mowgli on his back to the jungle. Besides, it is not easy for us to accept punishment even if we are wrong. But Mowgli could.

The story was inspired by the hit Disney Channel Original Movies, “High School Musical”, about the school life of a group of lovely secondary students in the East High.
The story started with an excitement— Brett Lawrence, one of the best pastry chefs in the country, hosted a cooking challenge on the Baking Channel for two school teams! Zeke, who was a big fan of Brett, wanted to show off before him to impress him, so, with the encouragement of the principal, he decided to compete in the competition with his friends: Sharpay, Taylor, Gabriella, and other good buddies. It was not easy to get started in order to make a creative and unique cake, and they failed to make a proper chocolate cake before the competition. Also, because of the argument , Zeke decided to make the cake himself! Because of this decision, another error and failure was coming!
To me, the ending was quite unpredictable and surprising. The East High didn’t win the Prize as Zeke didn’t succeed in making a chocolate cake for the first time. However, he was able to create another cake with another cake in the right time! He didn’t give up although he did fail, and it was very impressive to me which teaches me not to give up before success. Also, it makes me know that wherever we meet a challenge, there are always friends by our side to support us!

One of my favourite scenes in this book is about how Greg thought it is the best time to bully his little brother. He said that his dad would throw whatever he’s got in his hand if he messed up in front of his dad. Therefore, it is the best time to screw up when his dad is holding newspaper ,but the worst time is when his dad is knitting bricks together. This part really interests me especially the picture that he draws. It’s very funny!

    Author:Neil Morris
    Publisher:Walker Books

As a swimmer, I have already learnt and understood the importance of the sports food. But it is this book which tells me more exactly about the details and the information about the food.
There are totally 5 kinds of food groups: carbohydrates, protein, fat, fluids, vitamins and minerals.
Carbohydrates are the most important source of energy. The unit of it is a sugar called glucose. It is stored in the liver and muscles. When we have intense sports, we first use up the glucose in the muscles then the liver. When the glucose is used up, we’ll feel very tired. An experiment conducted by the Swedish scientists showed that low-carb cyclists did their full speed for 60 min, moderate-carb cyclists for 115 min, high-carb can somehow managed 170 min.
Protein builds, maintains and repairs cell, it makes up part of every cell. What make protein so special are the amino acids inside. If there are not enough of carbohydrates and fats, protein is also used to meet energy demands. Fish, milk, other dairy foods and eggs are good sources of protein. Britain’s Olympic gold medalist Kelly Holmes who won gold in both 800 and 1500 meters eats many cashew nuts which contains a high amount of protein before the competition.
Actually, there are other nutrients like fat, fluids, vitamin and minerals. To sum up, if you are an athlete and have a balanced diet, you will definitely perform very well in all competitions.

The technology used is quantum teleportation , assume that there’s a unusual link between two particles , such as two electrons , one of them is on the otherside of the milky way and another is in the laboratory , if we do some changes on the elctron , the other one will soon be changed as well . in the case , useless information is transferred faster than the speed , just like when you have a red sock and a green sock in your room , you see that only the red one is present, you will immediately know that the green one is missing , you can know it faster than the speed of light but the information is useless . Same mechanisms can be applied to teleport particles 100 lightyears away within one second .

Book title : The story of String Theory
    Author:Brian Greene
The book introduces the history of string theory . As experimental results implied the contradictions between two major theory -Quantum mechanics and the general relativity theory , Physicists has been wondering if there is any means that can unify quantum mechanics and relativity .
Three of the Fundamental forces was unified by the quantum theory , they are the weak force which involves in radioactive decay , the strong force which holds protons and neutrons in the nucleus of an atom and the electromagnetic force which involves in generator and dynamos . The general relativity perfectly describes the mechanism behind Gravitaional force by using the concept of spacetime fabric . However , contradictions starts to appear when physicists try to unify the two major theory , and yet it has not successfully completed .
One day , a physicist accidentally discovered that the equation in mathematics can be used to describe
the strong force , this indicated the origin of string theory . After reading the book , I have learnt a lot . It aspires me to become one of the physicist who help develop the superstring theory to unify the four fundamental forces .

Title: A tale of two cities
    Author: Charles Dickens
The book is very excited because there are many plot that are exciting. I love the book so much because it makes me fall into the story. It’s talk about the thing happened during the French Revolution.
Darnay and Carton look similar but their background are really different! They both fall in love with a woman called Manette. Manette’s father was a doctor. He had been caught into the jail for 15 years. Manette lastly married Darnay. But he was also caught into the jail. He was judged the death judgment. Carton wanted to protect his loving woman. He went to the jail to instead Darnay’s death.
The title reflects the way in which the setting alternates between London and Paris. They tell of the shameless corruption, abuse and inhumanity of the French nobles towards the peasantry.

Title: A very good way of making money
    Author: Edward Arnold
This book was quite interesting. I learnt a very good way of making money in the book. Although it is only a common story book, I think each story can have different meaning at the back of the story. Even though it is only a few stories and occapy only a few places, it can have a big meaning. About the book, the author was hard working and as he think the way of making money. In now a day, all people want money and make it as the most important thing. I think they should read this book and think of what should they do. We should think about what will the money go at the end. Will they go with you when you die? Or they just stay here? No one can bring the money to the heaven. So, donate the money to the charity and make the poor have a better life is a more meaningful way to use your money!

The book is a biographical book about Michael Jackson’s life, from his childhood to when he was really famous for his songs. It also tells us about his private life, like inviting sick kids to his home and play, and his wives. The book writes down Michael Jackson’s amazing story.
In his life, he faced many difficulties, for example, after changing of his skin colour, many people felt that it was strange. Also, some people tell the police that Michael Jackson hurt a child in his home. After feeling upset for a time, Michael Jackson always put these sad things away, and continued his work then. I really admire his positive attitude.

In fact, this book is a ERS book which I used to do the ERS book report before. But I still have lots of reflections from this book, so that I want to share those ideas in SEEK.
This book is about Greek’s gods and goddesses. It introduces the birth of gods and their amusing and fantastic stories. Some are adventure stories and some are touching loving stories. You can almost read what you are interested in.
Some stories are really well-known, like the story of Prometheus stole fire for human and the box of Pandora. I think many people had already read them.
As a reader, it is an excellent book to read in leisure time. As a historian, it is a meaningful source to figure out the lives of ancient Greeks.
On the other hand, I am really interested in what people think of these stories. It is very amazing, isn’t it? They could create dozens of gods with their imagination. Wonderful!

The book “Oliver Twist” is written by Charles Dickens, who is a very celebrated writer. It is an irony story which talks about the failures of workhouse and the effects of environment.
Oliver was born as an orphan in workhouse. What’s worse, he couldn’t eat enough foods and wear enough clothes. Soon, he was sold to Mr. Sowerberry, but he was treated bad by Mr. Sowerberry and Noah. Therefore, he escaped from the coffin shop to London. Unfortunately, he was lead by Jack to Fagin — the leader of a thief group. Fagin trained him to be a thief. Then, Mr. Brownlow saved him and took care of him. After that, Fagin caught him back and told him to rob people. But Oliver was shot and hurt. Luckily, he was saved by Rose and Mrs. Maylie. It seemed that Happiness never last long in Oliver’s life — Fagin found Oliver again! Oliver was in trouble. But Nancy sacrificed herself to help Oliver. Finally, poor Oliver lived with Mr. Brownlow happily and Fagin was hang.
Oliver was a miserable boy. He didn’t have family and he met with misfortune again and again. It reflected how unstable the society was. But from Oliver, I have learnt that we should keep our pure heart and not to give up. There is always a rainbow after the heavy rains.

During the First World War , planes started being used as a kind of weapon , then the term ‘ fighters ‘ came during the war . From 1920 to 1940 , the maximum speed had increased from 300 km/h to 500 km/h . The first jet fighter was produced in 1939 by Germany . Today’s jet fighters are commonly known as Stealth Jet Fighters , Their design makes them able to escape from radar’s detection with ease . Plus , the combat radii has also been increasing with the technology of mid-air fuel supplying . I gain interest and knowledge about fighters after reading the book .

Title of the book: You shouldn’t have to say Goodbye
    Author: Patricia Hermes

Thirteen-year-old Sarah Morrow doesn`t think much of the fact that her mother winced a little when she hugged her. In fact, that first small indication of something wrong escapes her whole family. Three weeks later though there can be no escape. Sarah`s mother has been diagnosed with incurable cancer and the love this family shares becomes a desperate clinging.
I think the most touching episode in the story is the plot of the death of Sarah’s mother. This plot was described vividly. Sarah’s mother lifted her both hands, pressed them hard against her forehead. She looked at Sarah once, her eyes huge and for an instant, it was as if she was pleading Sarah. The author described this plot lively. As if we can feel the pain of Sarah’s mother, who was a lively, successful lawyer and was leaving her only daughter, Sarah all alone. And as if we can feel the grief of Sarah, who was losing her only parent and inclined to deny the whole thing.

Title of the book: A Midsummer Night’s Dream
    Author: William Shakespeare
    Publisher: The Commercial Press(H.K.)Ltd

Do you believe in fairies or angels which appear in the legends and fables? Have you wanted to meet them? Then you must read this book.“A Midsummer Night’s Dream” is written by famous writer, William Shakespeare, so that it is really well-known. It is a romance but it is also a comedy. It has lots of beautiful sentences and its plot is truly special.
It was a story that happened in Athens. You may say it was a romantic story. In fact, it was totally in chaos. This story is mainly about the wedding of Duke Theseus of Athens and the Amazon queen, Hippolyta. The story starts with the messy relationship between Lysander (in love with Hermia), Helena (in love with Demetrius), Demetrius (in love with Hermia), and Hermia (in love with Lysander). Lysander was trying to escape from the fixed marriage with Hermia while Demetrius and Helena were following them. In the meantime, Oberon (king of the fairies) and Titania (his queen) argued with each other so the unfortunate thing happened. Oberon tried to punish Titania as he asked Puck to make a trick on her. Puck used a magical juice from a flower called “love-in-idleness” which can strike up a love relationship. He used this juice that made the relationship totally different and even worse than before. But finally, all of them could find a true and endless love. Also, they treated this strange night as a dream.
During the moment when I was reading this book, my brain is full of the confused relationships. It was totally in the whirl. Even after I have finished it, I am thinking of it. I can’t imagine how Shakespeare construct the whole story. It was almost impossible for me. He was amazing and wonderful. The story plot is very complicated and the designs of character are astonishing. This a nice story for all of you to read.
